an astonishing story that will brighten your day. It s a story about the keys of the Kaaba, which have been entrusted to the Shaibi family for over a century. Have you ever wondered why the Saudi Government doesn t have the keys? The answer lies in a divine choice made by Allah many years ago. After Islam had triumphed in Makkah, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wished to enter the Kaaba. However, the door was locked. The people informed the Prophet that Uthman Ibn Talha possessed the keys and was hiding atop the Kaaba. The Prophet instructed Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) to retrieve the keys from Uthman Ibn Talha and open the gate of the Kaaba. Initially, Uthman Ibn Talha refused to hand over the keys, but Ali Ibn Abi Talib persevered and retrieved them, opening the gate of the Holy Kaaba. As the Prophet (peace be upon him) entered and commenced his prayer, an extraordinary revelation came from Jibrael (peace be upon him). The verses stated, Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people, judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever hearing and seeing. Upon hearing these verses, the Prophet commanded Ali Ibn Abi Talib to return the keys to Uthman Ibn Talha and apologize for any misconduct. Uthman Ibn Talha was astonished when Ali Ibn Abi Talib handed him the keys, unable to believe that the Prophet, who had conquered Makkah, was returning them. Later, Ali Ibn Abi Talib explained that Allah had chosen Uthman Ibn Talha to be the key-bearer of the Kaaba. Uthman Ibn Talha immediately recited the Shahada, bearing witness that Allah is one and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His messenger. Uthman Ibn Talha embraced Islam and became one of the greatest companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), a devout Muslim. This astonishing story reveals that the keys of the Kaaba have remained with the family of Uthman Ibn Talha .
