🌟 [ 55 ]   #14 Camino Frances : Nájera to Santo Domino, 14.8 mile walk [ @K&J's Retirement Adventures ]

#14 Nájera to Santo Domingo We had a 14.8 mile walk today and there were more hills than yesterday. Overall it was a really good walk – just a little long. I think our walking sweet spot is about 13 miles. We are getting stronger and the hills are not anything like we encountered early on. Early on in the video there is a picture of the church in Nájera that is built into the side of the red rock cliffs. We met a man named Richard originally from Ireland and has lived the last 30-ish years in London. He just retired 3 weeks ago and decided he was going to walk the Camino. He is a very colorful person and made for some interesting conversation. He told us that he is having his backpack transported every day. He carried it the first 2 days and then collapsed under the weight. He then went on to tell us that in his pack he carried his own sheets and a feather pillow. I laughed very hard — who knows what else he has in that pack! Any ways, we talked with him on and off throughout the day. We walked by quite a few vineyards, but the landscape is beginning to change with more farmlands and rolling hills. In some places the dirt is red and in other places it is a dark brown. We feasted on vistas of fields that have been harvested. There are all different shades of green, brown and yellow. It is really beautiful. We were also kept company by the sound of stones crunching under our feet. We also heard some very annoying pigeons. We also got to pet some very cute kittens/cats. They made us think of our grandchildren and wished we could sneak the cats in our pack and bring them home with us. Speaking of that, it is interesting to walk by shops and have absolutely no desire to purchase anything. We look at everything in terms of how much it weighs and then determine if we really want to carry it. Today I carried 2 apples and 2 oranges. The weight difference in my pack was very noticeable – but it was worth it and the weight keep diminishing thro .
