The drive starts at Mt. John Observatory, located next to Lake Tekapo, and heads to Lake Pukaki Viewpoint, where you can see Aoraki (Mt.Cook), the highest mountain in New Zealand. Lake Tekapo is famous for star observation as it s located on high ground and has a number of annual sunny days.
