Young recounted an incident where, during a game, Kobe took a rookie s seat on the bench, forcing him to sit on the floor. Despite the harsh act, it was all part of Kobe’s unrelenting drive to win. Young noted that Kobe’s demeanor on the court was far different from his off-court personality. While he could be very demanding and even abrasive during games and practices, this was his way of motivating the team. Young also shared how Kobe would challenge his teammates by showing up extraordinarily early to workouts, expecting the same level of commitment from them. Though stern, Kobe’s approach was always rooted in a desire for excellence, exemplifying the legendary “Mamba Mentality.”
