Oyeku is a metaphysical principle in the spiritual traditions of West Africa known as Ifa. Oyeku means the end of a cycle. These cycles are all varied and exist in all spheres of space in the known and unknown universe(s), in Nature as “life and death” simultaneously. I created this work as an installation to incorporate the idea of the end of suffering for all people of the African diaspora especially, the African American. This video/installation is a prayer towards new beginnings, inner understanding(s) and peace. Spel Kasting is a bath of somatic energy containing axionic ghosts, colors and codes within African spirituality. Its visual voice is glitched thus symbolizing potentialities through multi-transmissions in Nature. It is patterns within patterns -waves- of the unseen and seen in flux through dark fields of expanding systems in space and time. Spel Kasting is a visual narrative that focuses on creating and communicating with the unknown for a specific purpose. It is a window to this activity, real and imagined. Oyeku is also rebirth assisted by the ancestors and the divine feminine as the mothering principle. It is here we (Nature) are restored, re-membered and re-created genetically and spiritually before flesh and blood/land and water.
