India celebrated the festival of Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, on October 12. The festival marks the victory of good over evil. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Ram killed Ravan, the demon king of the island of Lanka, on this day. Effigies of Ravan are burnt across the nation to celebrate Ram’s victory on the occasion of Dussehra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu also extended their wishes to the citizens. They attended the Dussehra celebrations at Ramlila Maidan in the capital of Delhi. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated the festival with soldiers at the Sukna Military Station in West Bengal.
