Rovman Powell has individually been excellent with the bat coming to bat in powerplay on all three occasions and trying his best to bail the hosts out of trouble. The team's downfall against the new ball hasn't aided Powell either. The Windies have also been average on the field. However it can be said that the lack of runs from the top order is one of the main reasons for the series defeat at home. Two back-to-back games are coming our way to close out this tour.
The fourth T20I of the series between West Indies and England will take place at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium Gros Islet St Lucia on Sunday (November 17). The Men in Maroon have been forced to make another change to their squad. Left-arm pacer Obed McCoy who was initially unavailable for selection due to an injury sustained during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has now fully recovered to be named as Forde's replacement. Brandon King who had a niggle and didn't feature in the third T20I is expected to be fit and ready for selection for this clash. Romario Shepherd too had some issues with his hamstring during the previous match but it looks like he is fit to continue.
On the other hand left-arm fast bowler Reece Topley has flown back home. The left-arm pacer had a serious knee injury during the series opener didn't play in the second T20I and was really frustrated to miss out on the remainder of the series. Topley has a long injury history and it is heartbreaking to see his career disturbed due to multiple injury layoffs. West Indies had to win the third T20I to stay alive in the series.
They addressed the batting woes in the meetings but things got even worse in St Lucia when their top order apart from Shai Hope who was run out in the first over played reckless shots and paid a hefty price. They lost half of their side inside the powerplay courtesy of Saqib Mahmood's three-fer and Jofra Archer who knocked over the dangerous Nicholas Pooran who is having a quiet series.
Mahmood has been a real threat with the new ball picking up 8 of his 9 wickets in the series inside the powerplay. The hosts have failed to deal with the Lancashire pacer. At the same time playing poor strokes hasn't helped them either. Powell and Shepherd came to the rescue once again.
The former hit a wonderful half-century in the process. Jamie Overton used his height to full advantage and rattled the home side with a three-wicket haul in the slog overs including both the set batters all in one spell. Overton's prowess with the ball is very crucial for England given how he replicates the things the tall Liam Plunkett did way back under the leadership of Eoin Morgan.
Alzarri Joseph scored useful runs at the backend and took the Windies to a respectable 145/8 in 20 overs. The tourists too were in deep trouble losing wickets at regular intervals. They knew the target was under par and hence took their time to get set and slowly milked the runs.
