Pro-Palestinian and anti-NATO protests escalated into violence Friday night, coinciding with high-level NATO meetings in the city. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “acts of anti-Semitism, intimidation and violence must be condemned,” and that the RCMP is in touch with Montreal Police. Authorities reported three arrests so far, with expectations of more to follow. Dan Spector has the details.

Nearly a year after the Canadian government established a temporary visa program for individuals with loved ones in Gaza, fewer than 500 applications have been fully processed. Amnesty International has criticized the program as deeply flawed. In response to the government's perceived inaction, two Palestinian Canadians who have lost family members in Gaza are suing the Canadian government for not providing adequate assistance. Heather Yourex-West has the details.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed the country's first case of a more severe type of mpox in a person in Manitoba, though it says the risk to the general population remains low. The agency says the travel-related case is associated with an ongoing outbreak of what's known as clade 1 mpox in central and eastern Africa. It says the person sought medical care for mpox symptoms in Canada shortly after their return and is isolating, with contact tracing being conducted. Richard Zussman reports.
