This marks his second consecutive bid in Bukit Batok, following his 2020 defeat to the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) Murali Pillai, where he secured 45.2% of the vote—an improvement from his 38.8% in the 2016 by-election.
The SDP reaffirmed its focus on constituencies where it has an established presence and will share more details after the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee releases its report. Meanwhile, Dr Chee has launched fundraising efforts for his campaign, hosting dinners at his café, Orange & Teal.
In a recent video, he criticized Singapore’s education system as overly exam-driven and challenged Manpower Minister Tan See Leng’s comments on foreign talent, calling for political change.
With the next general election due by 23 November, Dr Chee’s candidacy signals SDP’s ongoing efforts to challenge the PAP in key battlegrounds.
