One person has died and several homes have collapsed following Saturday's heavy rains that have caused floods in different parts of Lusaka.
The heavy rains have caused extensive damage to infrastructure, with some families losing their homes and possessions.
Meanwhile the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU-
has swiftly responded to the crisis, distributing emergency aid and items to affected families.
Newly appointed DMMU National Coordinator NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU has assured the affected families that efforts are underway to provide temporary shelters and to relocate them to safer areas.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU was speaking when he delivered assorted items to affected families in Lusaka's Matero constituency.
And Lusaka District Commissioner ROSA ZULU called on affected residents to ensure that they avoid dumping waste as this leads to clogging of the drainage system and water borne diseases.
