Elissa Slotkin gave the Democratic Party’s rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday, laying out a roadmap for the party to resist the president as the party faces pressure from its voters to find a way to mount some kind of opposition to his agenda in the congressional minority.

Slotkin, who won a critical Senate race in a swing state Trump carried, offered brief remarks in comparison to Trump’s roughly 100-minute-long speech and told Americans that the president presented a stark danger to their lives. She said Trump is putting his billionaire friends ahead of the American public in a move that is “going to make you pay in every part of your life.”

“Your premiums and prescriptions will cost more, because the math on his proposals doesn’t work without him going after your health care,” she said. “Elon Musk just called Social Security the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.”
