Continuing the MCU’s long tradition of combining a solo adventure with a crossover event, The Marvels will serve as Captain Marvel 2 while also focusing on Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. The crossover film will see the MCU’s “Marvel heroes” teaming up in the MCU for the first time, and given the history of Marvel Comics, two out of those three superheroes could end up leading the Avengers in a not-so-distant future. While Carol Danvers never actually lead the Avengers in the comics, Captain Marvel is arguably the most powerful superhero in the MCU right now. As someone who has been fighting threats all over the universe since 1995, plus who has been working with the Avengers for the last five years, Captain Marvel is a strong candidate to lead the Avengers in upcoming movies. Danvers has been at the center of some of Marvel’s most important recent comic book arcs, such as Civil War II, and that could now be carried onto the MCU. Monica Rambeau, also one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, has led the Avengers in the comics – which makes her an even stronger candidate to lead the team in the MCU.
