Camino de Santiago - Day 22 - Sahagún to Reliegos
Welcome to Day 22 of #myCamino! The feet, with added KT tape over the blisters on my heels, started around 6.15am, as I carefully, and gingerly, tiptoed out onto the Camino once again. It took a while for the combination of Ibuprofen tablet and gel (on my heel blisters . I ll try nearly anything!) finally kicked in and augmented the teetering baby-steps into usable and more efficient strides. Breakfast was a stop in Bercianos around 10kms in. A simple toast, coffee and orange juice. I did look for a shop to grab either some fruit or ham for later but nothing was available or even open. So, I headed onwards to El Burgo Ranero which was a quiet walk with a number of trees lining much of the path and bringing welcome shade from the Spanish sun. El Burgo did appear to have much to offer either, though there is a sign for a pharmacy, which I may visit before I leave and risk the next 13kms to Reliegos in an effort to make some of the walking lost yesterday. I could do with a new packet of Ibuprofen, as the last one went down my throat this morning. (They last 8 hours so are great for the first 5hrs of walking once they kick in!) At time of writing it is only 11.30am and I hope to make it to the next town before 2pm but first I will eat, drink and rest a little. So, the day that nearly didn t happen was finally over after walking onwards to Reliegos to make up for the distance missed by stopping in Sahagún. The walk from El Burgo Ranero was hours of monotonous walking . it has been the first time that I had felt the extreme lows that the Camino can bring physically; by being seeming able to make the shortest distance seem a lifetime away, and by my own fault of turning to music to keep me company and lift my head, but instead I had Lewis Capaldi reminding me of reasons why I missed Danielle so much and left me feeling small and pathetic until The Pogues started cursing the lows away!
