Wednesday 10 PM Tropical Update: Hurricane Beryl still a Category 4, still weakening
Chief meteorologist Chris Franklin says Winds have come down a bit to 130 mph, but Hurricane Beryl is still a Category 4. We have not seen a change as of the 10 p.m. advisory. Winds have come down a bit to 130 mph, but Hurricane Beryl is still a Category 4. It does continue its weakening trend, just not a quick weakening. It is still a powerful storm as it is now moving away from Jamaica. Beryl is moving very close to the Cayman Islands, staying generally south, at least the core of the storm should stay south of the Island. There will still be some impacts with the strong winds, rain, and surge. It will weaken further as it approaches the Yucatan. So Mexico, maybe looking at a landfall as a weak Cat. 2 or strong Cat 1 before it makes its way into the Bay of Campeche. It will likely weaken to a tropical storm, but there is a brief window before landfall either somewhere in Mexico or south Texas to re-strengthen as a Cat. 1. Still, not expecting to see a rapid intensification once into the Bay of Campeche or the south of the western Gulf. Again, no impacts to us are expected.
