Science studies, theorizes and predicts nature s behaviour, then performs experiments to validate such theories. Although science does not need to assume what the nature of the underlying reality it studies is, scientists often subscribe to the philosophy of physicalism that tells us the reality is made of dead, inert matter. Physicalism fails to explain how a materialistic reality leads to many of the outcomes of modern scientific experiments. This is hampering the progress of scientific exploration. Fortunately, there is an alternative that is elegant and parsimonious, yet accounts for all modern scientific observations. This alternative philosophy has been in existence for several thousand years in the Indian sub-continent. In today s episode, we explore a modern formulation of this timeless philosophy, and how it may hold the keys to the next big leap in scientific discovery.
